The Wauwatosa Common Council is considering a series of changes to the city's ordinances regarding municipal waste disposal and recycling, including a plan to sharply reduce the fees for first-time citations for illegal disposal of recyclables.

Current city ordinances prohibit items on the city's recyclable list from being disposed of with ordinary garbage. A first offense could cost the resident $1,000. The fees for additional offenses rise to $2,500.
