Residents in Wauwatosa's 6th Aldermanic District have a new council member — almost.
A committee of five current members of the Common Council chose John Myers, a 45-year-old resident of the Pasadena neighborhood, from the six applicants seeking to fill the vacant District 6 seat on the council, and Myers' nomination now advances to the full council for final approval.
Committee members said they expected the council to convene a special meeting soon to approve Myers' appointment so he can begin serving in time for the council's meetings in late September, though the specific appointment date was still being scheduled.
Myers and his wife have lived in the district with their two children since 2018, and he works as chief operating officer for American State Equipment, a heavy equipment dealership based in West Allis. He and the other District 6 candidates interviewed for the vacant seat during the committee's evening meeting at City Hall on Aug. 26.

After the two-hour meeting, the newly selected nominee told Tosa Forward News in a brief interview that he was grateful for the opportunity. "I get to live in a beautiful district with great people and in a city with great people," Myers said. "It's an honor to get to serve my district and my city."

The District 6 seat has been vacant since the end of April, when Sean Lowe resigned shortly after his election to the seat after revealing he had purchased a house in a different district. Since then, the council and city officials have deliberated over the best way to fill the vacancy, finally settling on appointing a temporary replacement and scheduling a special election in April 2027.
