Students from Wauwatosa's two high schools who have participated in the schools' Industry Advisory program were celebrated May 27 at the school district's sixth annual Industry Signing Day, held in the Wauwatosa East High School woodshop.
This year's Industry Signing Day featured 45 students, the most yet, and a large group of parents, educators, administrators and elected officials were on hand to cheer them on.
The event is modeled after athletic signing days, in which student athletes declare which college they intend to play for. In this case, the Tosa East and Tosa West juniors and seniors declared their interest in pursuing additional training in skilled trades and technical fields.
“This event is about celebrating students who are taking the first step in their careers. The coursework and programming we offer have led the students to be qualified to start a Registered Apprenticeship in any of the skilled building trades,” technology education teacher Craig Griffie said in a district news release.
