No-kill cat shelter planning move to bigger facility on Blue Mound Road in Tosa

Happy Endings has long occupied a tight storefront on Forest Home Avenue in Milwaukee but is in the process of renovating and relocating to 10506 W. Blue Mound Road, a building offering more space for the 32-year-old nonprofit.

Nearly 50,000 humans have found Wauwatosa to be an accommodating place to live. Now, up to about 75 shelter cats are about to make the move to Tosa, too.

The Happy Endings No Kill Cat Shelter, a volunteer nonprofit with a history dating back to 1994, has long operated its shelter in a cramped storefront in Milwaukee on Forest Home Avenue. Early this year, it applied for a conditional use permit at 10506 W. Blue Mound Road in Wauwatosa at a building it had purchased offering much more space. It has spent the ensuing months renovating the building and preparing to relocate the shelter there, possibly later this year.

The Blue Mound Road location, across the street from the Milwaukee County Zoo, may seem like a modest upgrade from the outside, but inside, Happy Endings is increasing from 800 square feet to nearly 5,000 square feet.

"We have so much more space. It's so nice," Nicole Wells said in describing the new location to Tosa Forward News during a visit to Happy Endings' existing location earlier this year.

Happy Endings will be celebrating the impending move and raising money for the shelter's continued operation at its annual Litters & Bidders fundraising auction on Oct. 10 at the Zoofari Conference Center, 9715 W. Bluemound Road. The doors open at 11 a.m., and bidding starts at noon.
