City officials have begun the process of creating a new historic district on Warren Avenue encompassing more than 40 homes, adding a layer of historic preservation to one of the older neighborhoods in Wauwatosa.

The Wauwatosa Historic Preservation Commission voted at its July 6 meeting to begin the process of creating the new district, which would require Common Council approval.

Warren Avenue stretches from 83rd Street to Wauwatosa Avenue, though the historic district would be limited to the two blocks between 83rd Street and Church Street. It also would include a few contributing homes on Church Street.
