After decade of attention, Pius' former parking lot finally may become apartments

Cardinal Capital Management has been working for nearly a decade to redevelop the crumbling former parking lot next to St. Pius X Parish into dozens of apartments. Now, the company says it is ready to move forward at the corner of 74th and Wright streets.

Its development is called Le Bon Vivant, which Cardinal describes as an "active adults 55+ community," with 41 apartments in a mix of sizes. Located across from Roosevelt Elementary School, the new two-story building would replace an expanse of blighted pavement, where any hard rain typically sends cascades through gaps in the concrete retaining wall.

On March 17, the Common Council's Community Affairs Committee voted unanimously to recommend the extension of a zoning accommodation for the project, which will go to the full council for approval on March 24.
