The Wauwatosa Common Council is scheduled to vote June 23 on spending $1.6 million to demolish a warehouse behind the Mayfair Collection that the city is in the process of purchasing, possibly to kindle redevelopment interest.
The purchase of the property at 11400 W. Burleigh St. is not yet finalized, Wauwatosa Finance Director John Ruggini said in a June 16 Financial Affairs Committee meeting. The city and property owner are now in the "due diligence period," with a closing expected this fall, Ruggini said.
The council voted in March 2026 to authorize the city to move forward with the purchase, after closed-session committee discussions that month and in December 2025. The discussion this month appears to be the first time the property has been identified publicly as primed for a city purchase.
The property, known as the Lineage warehouse, is 6.75 acres and valued on city assessment rolls at $14.5 million. It is located within the city's Tax Incremental Financing District 7, which means revenue generated by new development within the district can be spent on district improvements, including building purchase and demolition.
