An opportunity to learn about a Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District project drew several dozen residents to an April 30 open house meeting at Washington Elementary School, and even the official at the center of attention was surprised at such high turnout for her own meeting.
"Thanks for coming to learn all about sewers," Bridget Henk, MMSD's senior project manager, said to those gathered in the school's multipurpose room. "Typically when we have a sewer project we get like four."
MMSD is posting a range of information about this project to its website here.
Many of those residents closely scrutinized the poster-size maps and information boards and peppered Henk with questions about MMSD's plans to install new liners in many of its sewer pipelines that run through several neighborhoods on the city's east side.
That said, it was clear that a parallel but entirely different project was on the mind of many of the residents: Schoonmaker Creek.
