Wauwatosa police are seeking a gunman who opened fire early Nov. 12 in an apartment at the Reserve at 6100 W. State St., injuring two people, possibly in connection to illegal gambling.
The two victims survived their injuries, as did a third person, who was injured while fleeing the scene, police said in a news release Nov. 17.
The incident occurred around 1 a.m. Nov. 12. Police determined that the unidentified gunman gained entry to the apartment by force through a first-floor patio.
"Further investigation revealed that the apartment is a known host site for illegal gambling," the police news release said. "At the time of the break-in and shots fired, a poker game was underway with multiple individuals in attendance."
Police suspect the incident was a targeted shooting, and though the gunman has not yet been arrested, police do not think there is an ongoing threat to the public.
Anyone with information is asked to call the department's investigative division at 414-471-8430.
"This incident is a difficult reminder of how illegal activities can undermine the safety and sense of security we all value in our community," police said. "Public safety is a shared responsibility, and we rely on collaboration and open communication. If you’re aware of activity that raises concerns, we encourage you to let us know."
