With just four weeks until the Nov. 3 general election, some of the races for state Legislature in districts that include Wauwatosa are heating up, as candidates report thousands of dollars in campaign contributions.

The most recent campaign reports, which were due Sept. 30, show that the two candidates for Senate District 5 have collected more than a half million dollars combined this year. State Rep. Robyn Vining, the Democrat, continues to hold a fundraising edge against Republican challenger Mike Roberts.

And in the race for Assembly District 13, we are getting a first look at the head-to-head fundraising totals between two newcomers, Democrat Amy Zimmerman and Republican Mike Morgan.

In their total contributions this year, Zimmerman, coming off a competitive primary race in August, is now far ahead of Morgan, who faced no Republican challenger in the primary. Their numbers are much closer in the most recent reporting period, which ran from July 28 to Sept. 23.
