Moss Universal Park, a planned redevelopment of Milwaukee County's Wisconsin Avenue Park in Wauwatosa, has been a dream delayed in the three years since County Parks and The Ability Center announced their intention to create the area's first such inclusive park on the 18-acre property.
Those plans were unveiled to much fanfare in July 2023, but since then, the park has mostly remained unchanged — its playground and ballfields still in use but not yet fully accessible to everyone who might want to use them regardless of age or ability.
Now, local leaders say they are ready to move forward with the $22 million construction of Moss Universal Park at 10300 W. Wisconsin Ave. A groundbreaking ceremony on Sept. 16 at the park was attended by local officials and advocates for people with disabilities.

Milwaukee County Parks, in a news release, said the groundbreaking marked the long-awaited start of the first phase of construction, as The Ability Center continues to raise the money needed to complete the project. The park is named for the late George French Moss, a Wauwatosa resident whose $3 million donation was an early catalyst for the project and its fundraising campaign.
