The District 6 seat on the Wauwatosa Common Council has been vacant for nearly three months. It appears likely the seat will remain vacant for another nine months.
District 6 includes almost all of the Pasadena neighborhood from 92nd Street to Wauwatosa Avenue, and it includes the western side of the Tosa East Towne neighborhood. Like all of Wauwatosa's 12 aldermanic districts, it has about 4,000 residents.
After the council passed a new ordinance in June governing how the city fills all aldermanic vacancies, the Government Affairs Committee on July 21 took up the question of how to fill the specific vacancy in District 6 that was created when Sean Lowe resigned less than a month after his election last April.

Under the city's ordinance, the council has three options: Appoint someone the fill the vacancy until the next election, leave the seat vacant until the next election or call for a special election to fill the seat as soon as possible by voters.
The six-member Government Affairs Committee unanimously chose the latter option; if that plan is affirmed July 28 by the full council, eligible residents of District 6 can begin circulating nomination forms Dec. 1 to get on the ballot in the April 2027 election. The winner of that election then would complete the final three years of Lowe's unfinished term.
