Wauwatosa would create a pilot program to test new overnight parking permits for residents without off-street parking, under a proposal that will be taken up July 28 by the Common Council.
The pilot program, as detailed this week to the Transportation Affairs Committee, would be limited to the 16 blocks bordered by Center Street, North Avenue, 70th Street and 66th Street, in the Tosa East Towne neighborhood. No overnight parking, with or without permit, would be allowed on Center or North.
Participants in the six-month trial program who demonstrate lack of off-street parking could apply for the permits to avoid the parking tickets that normally are issued for parking on Wauwatosa streets during restricted hours, from 3 to 6 a.m. under city ordinances.
Permit holders would be required to alternate sides of street, parking on the odd-numbered side of the street on odd-numbered days and the even side on even days. The proposed cost would be $15 a month. (An overnight parking ticket now costs $30.)
