The City of Wauwatosa announced on its flood update page that it will begin special pickup of debris from the weekend flooding on Aug. 11.

"We anticipate offering this flood-related debris pickup for approximately one week, and we will evaluate later if we need to extend it," the city alert said.

The city also is extending the hours of its Drop-Off Center. It will be open each day through Aug. 16 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., including on Aug. 13 from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. The city will waive its fee for dropping off any flood-related debris.

Regular yard waste pickup will be canceled for the week so public works teams can focus on picking up flood debris.

The storm overnight Aug. 9 dropped more than 5 inches of rain on Wauwatosa, swelling the Menomonee River to flood stage, filling city intersections with water runoff and sending many residents to their basements to deal with standing water and damaged belongings.
