Tosa firm COnovate gets $1.25M federal contract for battery materials

COnovate, a firm based at Wauwatosa's Milwaukee County Research Park, recently announced it had received a federal contract worth $1.25 million over two years as it scales up production of a battery component aimed at easing reliance on foreign-mined materials.

The two-year development contract was awarded by the U.S. Department of Energy's Critical Minerals and Materials Accelerator Program, according to a COnovate news release. It will support COnovate's production of its eCOphite anode material, "a high-performance alternative to graphite-based anodes in lithium-ion batteries, to support U.S. manufacturing and address operating challenges in battery systems."
