Wauwatosa might finally have a location for its July 4 fireworks display.

After several twists and turns in which the city's earlier proposed launch locations ran into logistical and bureaucratic dead ends, the Wauwatosa Civic Celebration Commission voted March 26 to pursue a partnership with Wisconsin Lutheran College to host the Independence Day celebration at the college's Krauss-Miller-Lutz Outdoor Athletic Complex atop a hill just off Swan Boulevard.

The biggest selling point of that plan: Wisconsin Lutheran College likes the idea.

"We're thrilled to just be a good neighbor in the community and host them," Athletic Director Jeremiah Hoffmann told Tosa Forward News in a phone interview on March 27.

City emails show officials scrambling on fireworks plan as options dwindled
After two years without a July 4 fireworks display in Wauwatosa, city leaders were facing pressure to bring the show back in 2026. Then on Jan. 30, their latest plans hit a new roadblock.

The Civic Celebration Commission, the volunteers who plan the city's July 4 festivities and other annual events, also generally agreed that this location is simply a good place for the community to gather in celebration of the United States' 250th birthday.
