Weekly digest: This is Tosa's spookiest house (not to be confused with historic homes tour)

It's almost Halloween, and Tosa Forward News is inaugurating what we intend to be an annual award for Haunted Tosa: Spookiest House. We bet you can't find a spookier house than this one, on Lloyd Street in the Inglewood neighborhood.

If you think you know of a spookier one, nominate it for an honorable mention this year, and maybe it will be in the running for next year's award. We also invite everyone to answer our five Halloween questions to help Tosa get into the spirit.

But please don't confuse the spookiest houses with the city's many historic houses, especially the five that are featured in this year's 37th annual Wandering Wauwatosa Tour of Homes, hosted by the Wauwatosa Historical Society.

The tour is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. this Saturday, Oct. 17, and the Historical Society has slashed its ticket prices compared to past years as it encourages more residents to participate. You can get full details here.

Historical Society aims to boost turnout for Tour of Homes with lower ticket prices
The tour runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17. Advance ticket holders can start their tours at any of the six properties, which span from 1860 to 1925.

Earlier in the week, Tosa Forward News broke the story of Tosa East High School's tough decision to cancel its construction classes because of teacher turnover. The school is left without a key tech ed teacher for this school year but hopes to recruit someone to resume teaching these popular classes by the next school year.

The school district also is facing some discontent among staff and parents at Whitman Middle School over district administrators' interactions with staff. On Monday, the School Board issued a statement voicing support for Superintendent Demond Means after concerns over at least one incident at the school last month.

The Jacobus Park playground.

And if your family regularly visits Jacobus Park, there is some good news in the county budget cycle this year. Milwaukee County Parks plans to upgrade the Jacobus Park playground in 2027 into a "sprayground." The county says the existing playground there is one of the oldest in the park system and due for replacement.

In other parks news, city and county officials recently held a ceremonial ribbon cutting for the newly completed multiuse trail that replaced what once was a section of Underwood Parkway between the Wisconsin Lutheran College sports complex and the Firefly Ridge Garden. Urban Milwaukee was there with this report.

Have you heard there's an election coming? Yep, it's less than three weeks away on Nov. 3, and Tosa Forward News will be rolling out additional election coverage in the coming weeks. In the meantime, note that in-person absentee voting starts this Tuesday, Oct. 20, at City Hall. Full hours and details here.

Early voting at Wauwatosa City Hall starts Oct. 20 for the general election ahead of Election Day on Nov. 3.

Some voters on the north side of Wauwatosa have some concerns about getting to their polling place at the Currie Park Golf Course clubhouse because of construction on Mayfair Road. WTMJ-TV talked to voters for that story.

There has been increasing buzz about Zaffiro's bringing its thin-crust pizza to a corner of Mo's Irish Pub in Wauwatosa. OnMilwaukee covered it here (among others).

There still may be quite a few leaves still clinging to Tosa trees, but for the leaves that have fallen, city crews are ready to collect them. The City of Wauwatosa's annual leaf pickup has officially begun, so get raking! Full info on the city's website, including a map showing where crews have finished their initial rounds.
