The Wauwatosa School District has identified six elementary schools where rooftop solar panel arrays could be feasible, potentially generating $6.4 million in savings over 25 years.
The six schools eyed for solar are Eisenhower, Lincoln, Madison, McKinley, Underwood and Wilson. Based on initial estimates, solar power at those schools could meet at least half of those schools' electricity needs, with the option of expanding to other schools in the future.
The School Board listened to a presentation about the district's solar power options at its Sept. 14 meeting, and it is scheduled to vote Sept. 28 on whether to move forward with seeking bids from contractors on the project. Construction likely would take place in spring and summer 2027.
