US Sen. Tammy Baldwin admitted she has been mentioning the Brewers a lot recently, in just about every political speech she has given. That should come as no surprise.

"Because, wow, we just won the World Series," Baldwin said Nov. 1 to the 30 or so Democratic campaign volunteers who had crammed into Wauwatosa resident Greg Walz-Chojnacki's home.

Walz-Chojnacki, wearing a T-shirt bearing the name of Democratic gubernatorial candidate David Crowley, had offered his residence as a kind of staging ground for the final get-out-the-vote push in and around his neighborhood near Wilson Elementary School. Just two days before Election Day, one group of Democratic volunteers was finishing up their afternoon shift, and another group was about to head out on theirs. In Walz-Chojnacki's living room, they ranged from elementary school students to senior citizens, many of them wearing Crowley buttons and other Democratic paraphernalia, as well as a good amount of Brewers garb.

Baldwin gave them a kind of pep talk that led with the timeliest of sports metaphors.

"All week, we have been cheering on the Brew Crew. I just want you to know, I am here to cheer on the Blue Crew. That's all of you," she said, to cheers.
