Heat Haven fires up Tosa ‘sauna park’ — but at a new park, moving from Hart to Hoyt

Owner Jesse Hieb said it was a 'bittersweet' decision to leave Hart Park after the inaugural season of Heat Haven Sauna Park, but Hoyt Park had a lot to offer the winter wellness business, which has just reopened.

If you got used to seeing barrel saunas outside Hart Park’s Muellner Building last winter and have wondered what happened to them this season, look no further than Hoyt Park. After a successful inaugural run, Heat Haven Sauna Park has relocated.

Owner Jesse Hieb first fired up the saunas at their new Hoyt Park location, next to The Landing beer garden, on Oct. 24. An official grand opening celebration was held Nov. 1, featuring s'mores, a newly constructed cold-water shower and a ceremonial fire lighting by Wauwatosa Mayor Dennis McBride.

Before Heat Haven opened for the season, Tosa Forward News asked Hieb about the reasons for the relocation.

“The most important thing was we wanted to stay in Tosa,” he said. "Hoyt had some things about it that made it a good spot for us long term.”

One selling point was the proximity to TOSA Pool. No, Heat Haven’s sauna customers won’t be using the pool for a cold plunge in the winter, Hieb said, but because the Friends of Hoyt Park & Pool already has established a system of compliance with regulations involving public pools, Hieb is hopeful that Heat Haven eventually will be able to add a true cold plunge next to the saunas, something that wasn’t possible at Hart Park.
