OK, so the Brewers didn't exactly cancel school, but yes, Tosa schools closed today nonetheless for the Brewers' World Series victory parade in Milwaukee.
How many Tosans do you think attended the parade? Maybe you were among them? The streets on this side of Milwaukee were rather quiet for much of the morning.
Now that Milwaukee has established itself as Wisconsin's new Titletown, it's time to look ahead to other big news, like the coming Election Day on Nov. 3. Early voting in Wauwatosa ended at 5 p.m. today, and the vote totals were impressive. During 10 days of in-person absentee voting at City Hall, 6,947 Tosans cast their ballots out of 34,220 registered voters in Wauwatosa.
If you have waited until Election Day to vote, you can get snapshots of the state Legislature races that include Tosa districts here and full coverage at the Tosa Election Tracker.

Tosa Forward News also profiled the race for Assembly District 13, which includes most of Wauwatosa. Republican Mike Morgan and Democrat Amy Zimmerman are running to succeed Rep. Robyn Vining, who is running instead for the Senate District 5 seat against Republican Mike Roberts.
For Tosa parents relying on child care at the city's 10 public elementary schools, a plan was announced this week to consolidate some sites based on lower-than-expected enrollment in Blue Door Academy's first year of providing that service. The change mainly affects before-school care and junior kindergarten wraparound care at a few of the 10 schools, requiring some students to be bused between sites starting Dec. 1.
A rather lively and unpredictable public hearing was held this week before the Wauwatosa Historic Preservation Commission on a proposal to create a new Warren Avenue Historic District. After several residents testified, both for and against the proposed district, the commission voted to advance the proposal to a Plan Commission review.
Hart Park found itself last Sunday at the center of the rugby world — or rather the world of Wisconsin Girls' Rugby. The league held its annual tournament in the Hart Park stadium, the second time Tosa has hosted the event. Congrats to the team from Divine Savior Holy Angels High School for taking first place.

Also at Hart Park, skaters rejoiced this week when the city gave the OK to turn on newly installed lights at the Tosa Skatepark. Through a public-private funding partnership, the lights now allow Tosans to take better advantage of the park's nighttime hours on their skateboards, scooters and bikes.
The lights operate on a timer that is activated by pushing a large button next to the skatepark, so "push the button" may become as common among skater lingo as "sweet kickflip" or "sketchy slappy" or "please call 911, I might have broken my femur!"
