Before getting to the news, a reminder to submit community announcements for the Neighbor Pages of Tosa Forward News' Community Edition.

This is last call for any Neighbor announcements for inclusion in the October print issue. You can submit information by email at editor@tosanews.com or in the form at the bottom of this page.

The Community Edition is a monthly "good news" summary of goings-on in Wauwatosa, delivered to subscribers' doorsteps. It's something we're experimenting with a bit to see where it goes. If you'd like to subscribe to receive copies, visit the eShop.

The city budget season is underway, with Financial Affairs Committee meetings on Tuesday evenings this month to discuss the components of the City of Wauwatosa's proposed 2027 budget.

Tosa Forward News had this story about the Wauwatosa police budget proposal, including an effort to step up officer recruitment by offering $2,500 hiring bonuses.

The department typically operates at about 75% of capacity due to position vacancies, medical leaves, training and other absences. As city officials prepare to adopt a 2027 budget next month, police administrators say hiring bonuses are money well spent.

We also checked in on the local campaigns for state Legislature to see what they were reporting for revenue and expenses. A summary can be found here.

Tosa Forward News will be expanding its election coverage over the course of the rest of the month as we get closer to the Nov. 3 general election. In-person early voting in Wauwatosa starts Oct. 20.

The Wauwatosa Village Business Improvement District is bringing a Christmas Market back to the neighborhood after a previous incarnation went on hiatus a year ago while businesses were still dealing with the aftermath of severe flooding. The new Village Christmas Market will be on Harwood Avenue from Dec. 2 to 6.

Although the shelter has long been located in a tight storefront on Forest Home Avenue, the nonprofit is renovating a building in Tosa on Blue Mound Road, across from the Milwaukee County Zoo, and hopes to move the shelter there soon to take advantage of a lot more space.

We caught up with some lead volunteers for this story, which admittedly only "scratches" the surface!

Happy Endings has long occupied a tight storefront on Forest Home Avenue in Milwaukee but is in the process of renovating and relocating to 10506 W. Blue Mound Road, a building offering more space for the 32-year-old nonprofit.
