The Wauwatosa School District announced Oct. 27 in a letter to families that it had not met minimum enrollment numbers at some elementary schools for its new contractor's before- and after-school child care program and will need to bus or shuttle some students between consolidated sites starting Dec. 1.
The greatest disruption will affect participating students from Eisenhower, Jefferson and Roosevelt elementary schools and Wauwatosa Montessori School, while the other elementary schools will keep their on-site care.

Blue Door Academy, a program of Boys & Girls Clubs of America, is in its first year of providing before- and after-school care at 10 Wauwatosa public elementary schools, as well as wraparound care for junior kindergartners.
The child care is paid for by the families that use it, though the Tosa School Board voted in August to spend money, up to an estimated maximum of $97,500, on the shuttle transportation that would be needed to ensure no family would suddenly be without child care when a decision had to be made to consolidate sites.
