The Wauwatosa Historic Preservation Commission will hold a public hearing at its 4:30 p.m. Oct. 28 meeting at City Hall on a proposal to create a new historic district along Warren Avenue that would include 44 buildings.
The proposed Warren Avenue Historic District is described as "a well-defined cluster" of historic homes on the avenue, mostly from 83rd Street to Church Street, as well as a three homes with Church Street addresses.
"The area of large and modestly sized homes began in 1880 and was developed and filled in over the next six decades," according to a written description in support of creating the historic district. Architectural styles include Queen Anne, Georgian Revival, American Foursquare, Arts and Crafts, Colonial Revival, Georgian Revival, Dutch Colonial Revival, Tudor Revival and Mediterranean Revival.

The commission voted in July to begin the process of creating the historic district, which would become the city's fourth if approved eventually by the Common Council. The current three are the Church Street Historic District with 16 properties, the Wauwatosa Avenue Historic District with 35 properties and the Rockway/Brookside Places Historic District with 23 properties, according to the city's website.
