The primary election is Aug. 11 in races for state offices. The legislative race that will be influenced by the largest number of Wauwatosa voters is in the 13th Assembly District.
The incumbent, Rep. Robyn Vining, a Democrat, isn’t running for re-election in the Assembly, because she is seeking the District 5 seat in the Senate. That creates an open seat in the Assembly, and two Democrats, David Sanchez and Amy Zimmerman, are on the ballot in the primary vying for the chance to face the only Republican challenger, Mike Morgan, in the Nov. 3 general election.
In-person absentee voting is already underway at Wauwatosa City Hall, and polls citywide will be open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day. Additional details can be found on the city’s website.

Wauwatosa spans four Assembly districts, and the largest part of the city is within the District 13 boundaries. The others are districts 12, 14 and 18. The only other primary is in District 12, where Rep. Russell Goodwin Sr. faces one Democratic challenger, Jordan Roman. District 12 includes the far north Tosa neighborhood of Tosa Heights and the apartments at Luther Manor.

District 13's boundaries, in addition to encompassing most of Wauwatosa, include all of Elm Grove and a large northern section of Brookfield. Sanchez lives in the Inglewood neighborhood on the east side of Wauwatosa, while Zimmerman lives in Brookfield. Both are first-time candidates for state office.
