The dramatic filling of Tosa Village's flood plain on Aug. 10 may have demonstrated what flood mitigation projects were designed to do - minimize the damage to homes and businesses.
The declaration came after the governor visited Wauwatosa and Milwaukee and spoke to local officials and residents who are dealing with the aftermath of the weekend flooding.
The overnight storm began causing outages late Aug. 9, and many customers remained without power for much of Aug. 10 as We Energies crews responded to city neighborhoods.
About a hundred people attended the March 7 forum to see how Dennis McBride and Andrew Meindl would respond to questions posed by a moderator from the Wauwatosa West Allis Chamber of Commerce.
The final scope and details of such a project remain uncertain, particularly given the potential cost. Several council members acknowledged that the project might be a tough sell for some taxpayers.
