The Friends of Firefly Grove Park is looking ahead to an active 2026 and soon expects to proceed with its efforts with the backing of a formal partnership with the City of Wauwatosa.
Michela Miller and Madison Sveum were seventh-graders working on their Girl Scouts Silver Awards in December 2015 when they led efforts to bring a Holiday Train stop to Wauwatosa.
Because work had not yet begun on the memorial, no materials were lost, but when the floodwater subsided, the memorial committee conferred with city officials and decided Hart Park would no longer be a suitable location.
It will start at 11 a.m. near the Harwood Avenue intersection, with a reviewing booth set up in front of Leff's Lucky Town. It is expected to last about 45 minutes, with about 35 different groups marching and a vintage plane flyover.
The five stops on the Oct. 4 tour will 'showcase the city's rich architectural heritage and the many roles historic buildings have played in shaping community life.'
