A 26-year-old Milwaukee woman has been arrested by Wauwatosa police after she allegedly opened fire during a "road rage incident" on West Capitol Drive on April 7, according to a police news release.
The news release, which did not name the suspect or the time of the incident, said she was driving a Chevrolet sedan west on West Capitol Drive through a construction zone near I-41 when the car struck a GMC pickup truck and several construction barrels. Local news reports indicate the shooting occurred around 3 p.m.
The woman then fired a gunshot into the tailgate of the pickup, and when both vehicles stopped at the red light at 124th Street, the woman fired another gunshot into the pickup's front passenger door, according to police.
The driver of the pickup called 911 as the driver who had fired shots fled the scene, according to the release, which did not say if the incident involved any injuries.
Police say they "quickly identified a suspect" and arrested her at her Milwaukee home, where they also found the handgun thought to have been used in the shooting. She was jailed, and charges will be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office.
Tosa Forward News emailed police seeking the name of the suspect and whether any specific charges are pending. No response had been received at the time this story was published.
“This incident is a stark reminder of how quickly a moment of frustration can escalate into a life-threatening situation," Wauwatosa Police Chief James MacGillis said in the news release. "Let me be clear – acts of violence, especially involving firearms, will not be tolerated in our community. Public safety is a shared responsibility, and we all have a role to play in keeping our roads safe."
