Wauwatosa Alderman Sean Lowe ran unopposed this spring for the council seat that represents the newly drawn District 6. That east-side district spans parts of the Pasadena and Tosa East Towne neighborhoods where Lowe lives.

Late April 7, after Election Day results were in, Lowe declared on social media that he had “made history once again.”

“I’m honored to be the first African-American elected AND re-elected Alderman in this city. Let’s continue the work together,” he said.

What Lowe left out of his post, as well as the rest of his campaign messaging in the months since declaring his candidacy, was that he had been in the market for a house in a different district. Public records indicate that in mid-March he and his wife finalized a mortgage on a $375,000 four-bedroom home in the 4400 block of North 104th Street.

That address is in the newly drawn District 12, in the city’s northwest corner — the opposite end of Tosa from Lowe’s current District 6. Lowe, however, when contacted April 8 by Tosa Forward News, said he intends to serve his new four-year term as District 6's council member. He would not confirm purchasing a house in a different district.
