Wauwatosa fire crews responded Sept. 30 to an afternoon fire in a Froedtert Hospital parking structure that damaged nine vehicles and sent one person to the hospital's emergency room for treatment.

The unidentified victim reported to the emergency room before firefighters arrived on the scene around 12:15 p.m. No other people were injured, according to information released by the fire department.

"Upon arrival, fire crews encountered a well-involved vehicle fire that had extended to multiple vehicles within the parking structure," the department said. "Crews quickly extinguished the fire while additional firefighting personnel searched the affected area for visitors and staff."

Tosa police later told local news outlets that the vehicle that ignited the fire had been involved in a nearby crash. The driver, 88, then drove the vehicle into the parking structure, where leaking gasoline caught fire.

Assisting agencies included the West Allis and Milwaukee fire departments Wauwatosa police and Froedtert security.
